Abyssinian Cats |

There are many myths and legends surrounding
the Abyssinian cat which shroud its origins in mystery. Abyssinians
are very similar to the paintings and sculptures of ancient
Egypt and are in fact thought to be the original cat of nine
lives. Unlike many cats whose name is derived from the place
in which they come from, Abyssinians do not, as their name
suggests come from Abyssinia (now Ethiopia). Abyssinia was
however, the place in which they were first displayed. The
original Abyssinian is said to have been called Zula and was
owned by the wife of Captain Barrett-Lennard.
Abyssinian cats have slender bodies, elegantly arched necks,
large ears and large slanted almond shaped eyes of green or
gold. The fur is always ticked and comes in many different colors-
the main being golden.
