Being hardy cats means that with a good diet
and love and affection the American shorthair is very healthy
and will generally need only annual vaccinations and check ups.
American shorthairs are quite large cats and the males are bigger
than females. They reach maturity at 3 to 4 years and do live
for a long time- some from 15 to 20 years- so if you buy one
of these cats it will be a long term commitment.
The sustained selective breeding of the American shorthair means
its temperament is predictable throughout many generations.
American shorthairs are robust even tempered, sweet natured
cats which do well with children and dogs. They are moderate
cats and nothing about them- whether it be body or temperament-
should be exaggerated.
