Maine Coon Cats |

Maine coons are one of the oldest native American
cats and are in fact the official Maine State cat.
Their large eyes, ears and bushy tails are examples of the way
in which these cats have adapted to the harsh climate from which
they originate. Another example of their adaptation is that
Maine coons are long haired. Their soft fur is unlike that of
any other cat but is in fact very easy to look after.
They did, however, fall out of favor in about 1900 because of
the introduction of other more exotic cats for example the Persians.
But they did come back into fashion in the 1950s and have stayed
a favorite ever since, constantly growing in popularity.
Maine coons are good natured, playful and very loving. They
are not wholly dependent upon their owners but they do like
following them around. They are very affectionate and can be
quite mischievous. They like households with children and even
dogs.
With above average intelligence and a warm nature they are delightful
companions.
